Savonia cuisine prides itself on freshness. Our pristine forests and lakes are an abundant source of delicious local ingredients: fish, game, berries and mushrooms. If you like to sample the most typical flavours of our region, choose the KuopioMenu, featuring the best seasonal ingredients. Besides traditional dishes, the restaurants in the Kuopio region offer tasty home cooking and à la carte menus, and there are also lots of delightful cafes serving food. In summer you can also have lunch aboard one of the boats operating local cruises in Kuopio. One of the most special places for lunch or dinner is the revolving restaurant at the top of the Puijo Tower.

Our most famous traditional food is the one and only Kalakukko, fish baked in a rye crust. And no visit would be complete without tasting our cult classic, muikku, a succulent serving of venace, a Finnish whitefish.  Don´t forget to sample our rustic rye breads, famous berry liqueurs and wines.
