How to get to the Kuopio Region

Travelling to the Kuopio Region is easy, whether by public transport or your own car. Kuopio is the biggest city in eastern Finland and also a gateway to 11 towns and districts in its surroundings, namely Tervo, Leppävirta, Rautavaara, Siilinjärvi, Varkaus, Joroinen, Juankoski, Vesanto, Suonenjoki, Rautalampi and Tuusniemi.

Connections by air to Kuopio are excellent, as there are 5 - 10 daily flights from Helsinki. Kuopio Airport also operates charter flights. There are 10 trains daily from Helsinki to Kuopio, the fastest Pendolino train taking only four hours. Kuopio, Leppävirta, Varkaus and Siilinjärvi are situated by one of the arterial roads of the country, highway 5 leading from Helsinki to Lapland. A good network of well-maintained roads connects Kuopio and the other cities and the rural districts in the region. The Kuopio Region can also be reached by bus. Apart from car and bus, many citys and towns can also be reached by rail.
