Suonenjoki is known everywhere for its strawberries, but there are other sweet things there, as well: excellent fishing spots, and numerous events attract visitors all year around. The most famous of the events is Suonenjoki Strawberry Carnival, which is one of the oldest summer events in Finland. Another significant music festival in Suonenjoki is alcohol-free rock festival Iisrokki. Suonenjoki is easy to reach: It is located between Kuopio (50 km away) and Jyväskylä (90 km away) on Blue Highway 9. Railway is a fast and important travel route: the train will take you to Kuopio and Pieksämäki in less than an hour. The nearest airports are found in Kuopio and Jyväskylä. There are about 7,600 inhabitants in Suonenjoki.
