Cross-country skiing
Kuopio holds fast to its reputation as a ski city. Each spring gun-produced snow, equalling the amount of a little mountain, is stored under a bed of sawdust on Puijo ski stadium. Therefore skiing has been possible on Puijo already since the end of November, even though there was not even a hint of snow in sight in the city, not to mention skiing tracks.
Kuopio city ski trail news release stated on January 13 that all illuminated ski trails for recreational skiing, totalling 50 km in length, have been opened for freestyle cross county skiing. In addition, the ski tracks on Puijo hill are open for traditional cross-country style.
The length of the official ski trail network around Kuopio city totals 550 km. That is a respectable number, indeed. Maintaining the track network is a major investment for well-being of Kuopio citizens. This feature also strengthens the image of Kuopio in a best possible way as a winter holiday destination. It’s not about making promises, but putting them into practice. Another excellent addition in this respect is a virtual real-time skiing trail condition update. We wish the sports site maintenance team a lot of perseverance for their work during the ski season!
